DUTCH PLAYER FOILS KAREN MARSHALL REPEAT TITLE BID

Marit Harryvan from the Netherlands beat defending champion Karen Marshall (Baberton) by 2 and 1 in the final of the Strathtyrum Trophy tournament at St Andrews today (Friday).
They were the first and second seeds from the two-round stroke-play qualifying.
Marshall beat the No 3 seed, Kate McIntosh (Broomieknowe) at the 19th in the morning semi-finals in which Harryvan won by 5 and 4 over former US college circuit player, Lizi Sweetnam (Leighton Buzzard).
The handicap tournament for the Strathtyrum Salver was won by Liz Ward who plays off 15 at Woburn.
