Two 25-year-olds, Morgan Pressel from Boca Raton, Florida, and Sweden's Camilla Lennarth led the birdie-fest that was the first round of the Ricoh Women's British Open Championship over the Old Course St Andrews.
They are joint leaders on six-under-par 66. Lennarth, who came through a 12-player play-off for the last four places in Monday's Final Qualifier at Kingsbarns, came in late with her 66 to share the spotlight with Morgan Pressel - who attended a St Andrews High School in her home town!
Here is a breakdown of the low scoring, brought about by a lot of rain which took the bad bounces out of fiery fairways and softened the greens so much it was like playing darts with their approach shots for these world-class lady pros.
TWO players shot 66.
SEVEN players shot 67
TWENTY players shot 69
SIXTEEN players shot 70
TWENTY playerfs shot 71
Which means that a total of 73 players got under the par of 72.
Only the leading 65 and ties at the end of Friday's second round will qualify for the weekend rounds.
That means the cut could be as low as two-under 142.
Of course, the other side of the coin is that if the wind blows .... it will be a completely different links and the scores will soar.
MORGAN PRESSEL
SOME OF THE LEADING ROUND 2 TIMES

11.48 Inbee Park, Jodi Ewart Shadoff, Beatriz Recari.
