ROYAL PORTRUSH DEFEND IRISH SENIOR CUP AT PORTUMNA

NEWS RELEASE FROM IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Defending Champions and favourites Royal Portrush will go in search of their 26th Irish Senior Cup title when eight teams tee off in the All Ireland quarter-finals at Portumna Golf Club, 16 August.
In a jam-packed weekend of qualifying matches last May, Royal Portrush were crowned Ulster champions after a nailbiting 3½ -1½ victory over Royal Co. Down Ladies, who themselves have qualified for the finals through the back-door system.
Portumna secured a convincing 4-1 win over Roscommon to be crowned Connacht champions and will feature strongly on home ground when they face quarter final debutantes Castletroy after the Munster champions defeated Cork last May.
The Island were crowned East Leinster Champions after a 3-2 victory over favourites Co. Louth and now face a tough assignment against Kilkenny, the mid Leinster back-door qualifiers.

In the fourth quarter final, Mid Leinster Champions Enniscorthy face an emerging RCD Ladies side who boast the talented  Junior Vagliano Trophy team member Olivia Mehaffey in their ranks.

Co. Louth, Kilkenny and RCD Ladies all qualified through the back-door system with luckless Cork and Roscommon losing out on handicap aggregate.
