THREE SCOTS QUALIFY FOR BRITISH MATCH-PLAY

Three Scots - Under-18s champion Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies), Tara Mactaggart (Minto) and Heather Munro (Monifieth) - are through to the match-play stages of the British girls golf championship at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lytham St Annes in Lancashire.
They made it by the skin of their teeth. All three were on the limit mark of 159 after the 36-hole stroke-play eliminator.
Jaffrey added a 76 to her first-day 83 while Mactaggart and Munro both added 82s to first round 77s.
Mactaggart's "reward" is a first-round tie against the leading qualifier, Bethan Popel from Brimstol. She shot 72 and 73 for three-under 145 over the par-74 layout.
Jaffrey plays Clara Aveling (Belgium), a top 10 qualifier with 78 and 73 for 151.
Munro plays the No 2 seed Rochelle Morris from Huddersfield. She was at the top of the leaderboard for most of the day with 70 and 76 for 146 until Popel came in late to take the pole position.

Of the Scots who failed there were no real hard luck stories. Lesley Atkins (Gullane) missed out by three shots with 82 and 80 for 162, the same aggregate as Emma Hale (Troon Ladies with scores of 83 and 79.
Germany-based Rebecca McGeehan and Fiona Liddell failed by five and seven shots respecively. McGeehan shot 84-80 for 164, Liddell 86-80 for 166.
Clara Young (North Berwick) and Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) were the two biggest Scots disappointments. Neither played anywhere near their true form. Young shot 86-81 for 167 and Whyte 87-82 for 169.
