CHRIS ROBB HJTS FORM BUT EWAN SCOTT NEEDS TIME TO SETTLE
CHRIS ROBB ON HIS WAY TO A 69, HIS BEST SO FAR THIS US COLLEGE SEASON
FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE-CHATTANOOGA WEBSITE
BURLINGTON, Iowa --- Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire) fired a season-best 69 (-3) to lead the Chattanooga Mocs to a tie for 11th finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. His round paced a season-low team score of 293.
“It was great to see Chris Robb play like Chris Robb today,” Head Coach Mark Guhne noted. “He struggled yesterday but came out and posted a strong round. He is so talented and today proved it. He and Davis (Bunn) really showed what we are capable of, but they need a little help.”
The 293 moved the squad from 13th into a tie for 11th with Florida Gulf Coast. The two schools ended up three strokes out of 10th behind Arizona (892).
“Today's round was nice to see,” Guhne said. “If we could have turned in three of those, it would have been a decent tournament. We’ll get back, practise, qualify and be ready to improve in our next event.”
Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot an even-par 72 to end up as the low Moc at 223. He finished one shot ahead of Robb and Brooks Thomas (Chattanooga). Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) rounded out the scoring today with a 75 (+3), which ended his 54 holes at 228.
Editor's Note: Scottish youths champion Ewan Scott, a freshman on the UTC roster, is taking time to settle into his new environment. He shot rounds of 77 78 and 87 for 26-over-par 242. Ewan finished 73rd.
Oklahoma held off Virginia Tech for the win. The Sooners one-over par 289 gave them a seven-under par 857. The Hokies shot a sizzling 278 (-10) to make up 11 shots, but fell four shy at 861 (-3). Scott Vincent (Va. Tech) shot 64 today to share medalist honors with LSU’s Stewart Jolly at minus six (210).
The Mocs are off until October when they head south to Macon for the Brickyard Collegiate. Played October 4-6, the Brickyard is an annual stop on the UTC schedule.
