Kerry Smith (Waterlooville), pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency, has retained the Liphook Scratch Cup with the better
afternoon round after a tie on 147 with Charlotte Thompson (Channels).
The 22nd Liphook Scratch Cup was
played at Liphook Golf Club, Hampshire on Saturday.
Charlotte Thompson, playing off +2 from
Channels Golf Club in Essex and winner in 2012, set the pace with a four under
par 68 morning round. However, she came
in with an untidy 79 in the afternoon to let in former England International
and Hampshire champion, and the holder of the Scratch Cup, Kerry Smith from
Waterlooville, also playing off +2, win
the event following her morning round of 77 with an afternoon 70.
With the better afternoon round, Kerry
retained the Cup.
The event comes towards the end of a very
hectic season for all the players and the lengthened course at Liphook
certainly presented a challenge for everyone.
Rain had fallen overnight and there were several sharp showers during
the day. The greens were not as fast as
in previous years which pleased some of the competitors. Par is 72 with the SSS set at 75. The CSS went
up to 76 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon which tells a great deal about
the playing conditions.
