Final hole birdie sees Wrisdale home by a shot A 20-foot birdie putt on the final green of the Hotchkin course earned Lincolnshire’s Jordan Wrisdale the Junior Champion of Champions title at Woodhall Spa. The birdie four saw the 17 year old from Boston sign for 69, the best round of the event, for 144, two under par, and a single stroke victory over Adam Chapman from Cumbria, who returned 74, the only two players to finish under par. It was Wrisdale’s third victory in a matter of nine days following his success in the rain-shortened Lincolnshire Open over the same Hotchkin course and the Midland Champion of Champions at Lingdale in Leicestershire. “I felt confident coming into the event because I had started to play much better,” said Wrisdale. “I didn’t hit it good today but I scrambled well and was three under for the last five holes.” “I saw the scoreboard on 15 and felt Adam would finish strongly so I had to put my foot down. I knew I needed to finish strongly to tie him so the 20-footer on 18 was crucial.” Wrisdale (image copyright John Thomson Photography) birdied 14 and 16 then at 17 he bunkered his tee shot and had to splash out sideways. But he fired a wedge 120 yards to a foot to save par. That was also crucial but when he bunkered his approach to 18 and found a downhill lie, the title was on the line. However, he escaped to 20 feet then holed out for the vital birdie to pip Chapman. “This win means a lot,” added Wrisdale. “It’s not just my third win in a row but I would love to get back into the England set-up.” Chapman, an England boy cap this year, was the first round leader with 71 on his first appearance on the Hotchkin course and after posting his second round 74 looked to have at least secured a playoff until Wrisdale canned his final hole birdie. “I’ve been playing well and I came here confident that I could continue that,”  he said. “This afternoon I started poorly and was four over after five holes after taking double bogey at the fifth when I was plugged in a bunker.
