SCOTS BOYS WIN, GIRLS NARROWLY BEATEN IN SCHOOLS NATIONAL
Scotland beat England 9.5 to 8.5 in the boys' match while Scotland girls were narrowly beaten 5-4 in the schools golf international at West Kilbride Golf Club, Ayrshire today.
Man of the match for the Scotland boys was Lewis Reid (Douglas Academy, Milngavie). He was two down with two to play in his singles against Harry Mayers but won the 17th and the 18th, the last with a birdie after a glorious five-iron to within 2ft of the flagstick.
Reid's salvaging of a halved match from the jaws of defeat enabled the Scots to draw the singles 6-6 and preserve a one-point lead from the morning foursomes.
Scotland's five singles winners were Fraser Davren (Williamwood High), Calum Fyfe (Lenzie Academy), Matthew McCulloch (Stranraer Academy), Paul Dorrian (Notre Dame High, Greenock) and Murray Naysmith (Merchiston Castle School).
The other half-point in the singles for Scotland came from Callum Cochrane (Stewart's Melville College).
The situation was reversed for the Scotland girls who lost the foursomes 2-1 and then shared the singles 3-3.
Their afternoon winners were Eilidh Watson (Dollar Academy), Emma Hale (Marr College, Troon) and Emily Dalgetty (St David's High, Dalkeith).
