ABERDEENSHIRE, RENFREWSHIRE FIRST-DAY WINNERS AT COUNTY FINALS

Aberdeenshire and Renfrewshire won their opening matches in the Scottish women's county golf championship finals at Stirling Golf Club today,
Aberdeenshire, lacking the services of Sheena Wood, still travelling back to Scotland from the Senior British Open championship which ended at Royal Portrush on Thursday evening, did well to make up a 2-1 deficit from the foursomes and beat recent past champions Midlothian 5-4.
Scottish Under-14 girls champion Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne), pictured, making her county debut, and 18-year-old Kimberley Beveridge, also from Aboyne, had good wins in the singles.
Shire's other singles winners were county champion Sammy Leslie and Sara Mathieson.
Renfrewshire had a 7-2 win against Borders, the weakest of the four qualifiers.
Renfrewshire's winners in both foursomes and singles were Scottish champion Alyson McKechin, Megan Briggs, Carol Whyte and Katrina Milne.
