TULSA, Okla. - The second-ranked Alabama women's golf team shot 4-over-par 284 to finish in a tie for fourth place at the Dale McNamara Fall Preview on Wednesday at the par-70, 6,168-yard Tulsa Country Club. Southern California closed with a final-round 4-under 276 to claim the team title at 8-over 848. Oklahoma was second at 12-over 852 with Oklahoma State third at 15-over 855. The Crimson Tide tied fourth with second-round leader Duke at 16-over 856.
"I think today was a good learning experience," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "I'm not sure we were quite ready to win this tournament. We have a little work to do. Our performance, for where I thought we were, was pretty solid. We have some things we need to improve on and once we do we will be a really good team."
Senior Stephanie Meadow surged up the leaderboard with a 4-under-par 66 Wednesday to tie for second place, two shots back of medalist Kyung Kim of Southern California (-6, 204). Meadow shot 4-under 206 over 54 holes including a 5-under score over the final two rounds. Her third-round 66 included five birdies and just one bogey.
Junior Daniela Lendl produced the best finishes of her collegiate career with a tie for sixth place at 1-under-par 209 that included a final-round 69. It marked the first top-10 of her collegiate career and her first sub-par tournament.
Sophomore Emma Talley tied for 28th after shooting 72 on Wednesday. She finished at 8-over 218 at the Fall Preview while counting in all three rounds for the Tide.
Alabama could not find a fourth score on Wednesday as Janie Jackson was the final counter at 7-over 77 with Cammie Gray's 78 dropped from the team total. Jackson finished 55th while Gray was 65th.
Alabama returns to action on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. It will be Alabama first trip to the Legends Club since winning the 2012 NCAA Championship.
