STIRLING UNI INVITATIONAL AT DUNDONALD
Stirling and Independent Schools share the team
championships as Coghlan sails on!
3rd Annual University of Stirling Golf Tournament
9-11 September 2013
Dundonald Links, Ayrshire
Day two of the 3rd Annual University of Stirling
54-hole Golf Tournament saw challenging and breezy conditions over the 7,100
yards Black Course at Dundonald Links in Ayrshire. The best university and
youth players in the UK were focussed on team prizes today and making the 36
hole cut, prior to the individual championship deciders tomorrow (Wednesday).
In the Women’s Team event, it was the youngsters from the Independent Schools
Golf Association – Gee Won-Park, Ashleigh Greenham and Ellie Goodall – who took
the honours with a combined score of 323, thirteen shots ahead of the
runners-up University of St Andrews, with the hosts University of Stirling in
third. Greenham goes into the final day of the individual championship with a
comfortable four shot lead over the more experienced Sinead Sexton (NUI
Maynooth).
In the men’s event, it was the hosts from the University of
Stirling – 2013 SGU Order of Merit winner and Scottish Golfer of the Year, Jack
McDonald; 2013 Scottish Amateur Champion Zander Culverwell; 2013 Scottish Student
Champion Mathias Eggenberger; 2013 Irish Amateur Close Champion; 2012 Scottish
Boys Champion Craig Howie; and 2012
English Amateur finalist Henry Tomlinson – who swept the board, defeating a
high class SGU Select team – Connor Syme, Jamie Savage, Scott Gibson, George
Burns, Ben Kingsley and Stuart Easton - by a formidable fifteen shots. In third
place, the combined students from the University of Ulster/Queen’s University
Belfast narrowly held off their southern compatriots from National University
of Ireland, Maynooth and Trinity College Dublin. In the individual event, Daragh Coghlan from
TCD added an impressive 73 to yesterday’s 71 for a level par total of 144 to
lead Culverwell and Eggenberger by three and four respectively. The tournament
ends tomorrow, with a final 18 holes for both women and men.
