VENICE, FLORIDA, October 11, 2013 – Third-round leader Amy Anderson punched her ticket to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament today with a final round 4-under 68 on the Bobcat course at Plantation Golf and Country Club to earn medalist honors at Stage II LPGA Qualifying Tournament. She edged second round co-leader and five-year Symetra Tour member Jenny Suh by six-strokes.
The North Dakota State University standout got off to a steady start with one bogey and one birdie on the front-nine making the turn at even-par. She turned it around on the back-nine, carding a quick birdie on the par-4 11th hole then lit up the greens on Nos. 14, 15 and 16, sinking three-straight 20-foot birdie putts.
“I wasn’t expecting to play well because they tucked a lot of pins and you couldn’t really be aggressive,” said Anderson. “I just made some putts coming in, so I’ll take it. I pretty much had the round under control on the front-nine just made it to the green in regulation and two-putted so it was pretty boring. But I think the spectators enjoyed it after some birdies started rolling in.”
Anderson won the sectional qualifying tournament with rounds of 70-66-68-68 for a 16-under total of 272. The 21-year-old claimed 20 titles as a member of the Bison women’s golf team, and while she was the medal winner this week she says she is more proud of her solid 16-under finish, which ties her personal-best score. She shot 16-under at the University Golf Championship in the Czech Republic last summer.
“This is really special but the thing is whether you tied for 80th or your first you get the same thing,” said Anderson. “I think it’s just really fun to play well in a tournament like this. I was really nervous coming into the first day just because it’s Q-School and it means a lot. Just to be 16-under after four rounds, I couldn’t have dreamed this.”
A four-time Summit League Player of the Year, Anderson is one of 30 female college athletes pulled from more than 450 nominees that are up for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. She travels to Indianapolis, Ind. next week for the NCAA awards banquet where the winner will be selected.
Suh entered the final round in solo fifth and five shots behind the lead. She carded two bogeys and two birdies on the front-nine of the Bobcat Course, but rallied with four birdies before a bogey on the par-4 17th hole to finish at 3-under 69 for the day and 10-under 278 for the tournament.
A total of 90 players will advance on to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.at LPGA International. Among those who advanced from Stage II this week include Tiger Wood’s niece and Wake Forest standout Cheyenne Woods, who finished tied for 56th; China amateurs Xiyu Lin who finished tied for third, and 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur runner-up Yueer Cindy Feng, who finished tied for 20th; and Belgium amateur and Stage I medalist Laura Gonzalez-Escallon, who finished tied for 80th.

LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament will be contested over 90 holes December 4-8, at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. Top finishers in the final stage will earn 2014 LPGA membership (total number of cards TBD) and all others who make the cut will receive Symetra Tour status.
