NEWS RELEASE FROM THE IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Brege McCarrick Appointed Incoming Chairman of the
Irish Ladies Golf Union Limited Board of Management
Mullingar’s Brege McCarrick has been appointed incoming Chairman of the Board of the Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU). Her election will be confirmed at the Annual General Meeting in January 2014 and her appointment follows an extensive interview process. Brege takes up her position when the current ILGU Chairman Violet Twomey completes her four year term.
Prior
to her early retirement, Brege was employed by the Health Services
Executive as Disability Manager, having previously held the role of
Director of Human Resources.
A member of Mullingar Golf Club, she took up the game eighteen years ago and has been an active member of both the Ladies Committee and the Management Committee serving as Lady Captain in 2010. She held a key role as Chairman of the Development Committee that approved upgrades to course maintenance facilities and machinery. She is currently a member of the Club’s Strategic Planning Committee. With a wealth of experience of strategic and operational planning, she balances her work and family commitments admirably while enjoying her golf, playing off an impressive handicap of 15.
Commenting on her appointment, Brege commented “I am delighted to be involved with the ILGU during this exciting period of change and I look forward with great enthusiasm to the next four years. I just love the game of golf and am acutely aware of the challenges facing ladies golf given the ageing profile of our member base and the low number of young women joining our clubs.”
Following an EGM held in September 2008, the membership of the Union agreed to become incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee which also included changes to the structure and governance of the organisation. As part of this restructuring the independent position of Chairman of the Board, a role traditionally carried out by the President, was introduced and the new structure has met with considerable success over the past 4 years.
