PAUL KINNEAR LEADS BY ONE IN NICK FALDO SERIES GRAND FINAL
news release
23
October 2013: Paul Kinnear of England will take a slender one shot lead
into the final round of the Faldo Series Grand Final at The Greenbrier
in West Virginia, USA. The 19-year-old added a 69 to an opening day 71
in tough conditions on the Old White TPC.
Overnight
co-leader Megan Khang and the Czech Republic’s Simon Zach are the
players tied for second on one over par. 17-year-old Khang from
Rockland, Massachusetts now holds a commanding nine shot lead in the
girls division over England’s Elizabeth Prior, Austria’s Michaela
Gasplmayr and Kristen Gillman from Austin, Texas.
Defending
Champion Jack Singh-Brar is still in touch with the leaders after
rounds of 70 and 73. The 16-year-old from England will be confident that
he can overhaul the three shot deficit having come from four behind to
win the 2012 title.
The
largest ever field for a Faldo Series Grand Final is in the USA for the
tournament’s seventeenth edition. A total of 99 golfers from 19
countries are with Sir Nick Faldo at The Greenbrier for the World
Amateur Golf Ranking event which concludes on October 24.
With
the field divided into five age-groups, three boys and two girls will
each receive a trophy and an exemption into the Asia Grand Final at
Mission Hills Golf Club in China next March. The leading boy and girl
will also be invited to play in a professional Tour event and the title
of Faldo Series Champion will go to the player with the lowest gross
score, regardless of age or gender.
Faldo is on hand all week and today the former world number one held a question and answer session for the competitors with Dr Gio Valiante and former LPGA player and PGA of America Board Member Suzy Whaley. Local school children from Greenbrier East and West schools were also present for a clinic with Faldo and his personal coach Keith Wood
In
September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time
residential academy for education and golf development in America. The
first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona marks another
significant step in the programme’s history.
