Sophomore James Newton earned medalist honors Tuesday and helped the University of Central Arkansas Bears win the UMKC Bill Ross Intercollegiate at Milburn Golf and Country Club.
Newton, from Macclesfield, England, shot 67-75-69 for a 5-under 211, tying Oklahoma Christian's Anglo-Scot Alasdair Dalgliesh in regulation before winning in a playoff.
UCA junior Pep Angles tied for third overall at 73-68-72_213. Freshman James Steven from Blantyre, a member at Bothwell Castle, finished T19 with scores of 74, 75 and 75 for 223.
Senior Richard Farmer finished T38 (75-73-78) and sophomore Jacob Oaks finished 77th (83-80-77 for 240).
UCA finished with a three-round total of 872, edging Oklahoma Christian by a stroke. Lousiana-Monroe was third (882), followed by Denver (883), Wichita State (889), UMKC (891), Northern Iowa (893), Arkansas State (894), Missouri State (897), Oral Roberts (901), Air Force (904), SIU-Edwardsville (906), Drake (908), Creighton (913) and Western Illinois (919).
