SCOTS TO THE FORE IN WEEKEND USA COLLEGE TOURNAMENTS
Scots figured prominently in weekend
US college golf tournaments over the weekend.
Eamon Bradley, pictured, from Coatbridge, who finished second, and Lawrence Allan from Alva, who came joint 21st after being joint fifth with a round to play, helped Southeastern Louisiana University win the team title at the David Toms Intercollegiate at University Club, Baton Rouge, Louisiana - over probably the longest golf course they have ever played: 7,663yd with a par of 72.
Bradley posted scored of 71, 69 and for a four-under-par total of 212 - three shots behind the winner, another Southeastern Louisiana student, Grady Brame (72-69-68).
Royal Burgess member James Ross, a student at the University of Houston, finished sixth of 69 on 216 with scores of 72, 73 and 71.
Allan shot 67, 77 and 78 for 222.
Southeastern Louisiana, not surprisingly, won the team title by 16 shots from runners-up Iowa State. Houston, 22 shots behind SE Louisiana, came fifth of 12.
Meanwhile, Liam Johnston from Dumfries, a student at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, finished joint sixth in a field of 84 players at the Brickhard Collegiate Championship at Brickyard, Macon in Georgia.
Johnston shot 70, 71 and 69 for a six-under-par total of 210, finished three shots behind Emmanuel Kountakis (Mercer) (68-69-70), Seth Reeves (Georgia Tech) (70-68-69) and Hans Reimers (Mercer) (73-65-69) who tied for first place on nine-under 207.
Scottish youths champion Ewan Scott, from St Andrews, a freshman student at Tennessee-Chattanooga, finished joint 28th on 218 with rounds of 73, 75 and 70.
And a third Scot on the Tennessee-Chattanooga roster, former Scottish schoolboys champion Chris Robb from Banchory, finished joint 43rd on 222 (75-75-72)
Tennessee-Chattanooga (879) finished 10th of 14 behind the winners of the team event, Mercer (837).
