Pamela Feggans and Heather MacRae both shot five-over-par 77s in the first round of the Costa Blanca Ladies Open at Alicante but so windy were the conditions that the Scots were joint fifth at the end of the opening day, only two shots behind the Swedish leader, Therese Larsson.
MacRae, pictured below by Cal Carson Golf Agency, in fact, would have tied for the lead but for a double bogey 7 at the last hole. Birdies at the seventh and 11th helped to offset five bogeys and that 18th hole slip.
Feggans was five over par after only six holes but she too was able to notch a couple of birdies, at the seventh and 15th, to keep her score respectable as others were blown into the 80s.
Vikki Laing's 79 has her in joint 15th place.
Gemma Webster had an 80 for a share of 23rd place and Laura Murray is sharing 45th place after an 83.
Katy McNicoll shot an 84 for joint 51st place.
Little went right for Kelsey MacDonald who ran up a 16-over-par 88, leaving her joint 65th in a field of 67 players.
