SILVER LINING IN DISASTER DAY FOR HEATHER - SHE IS IN LINE FOR PROMOTION TO THE LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR
Overnight leader Heather MacRae had a disastrous final round of nine-over-par 81 to finish a disappointing joint ninth in the Costa Blanca Ladies Open on another day of tough conditions at the Alicante, south-east Spain venue.
The Gleneagles pro staff player from Dunblane suffered a horrendous start and was nine over par on the day for the first seven holes, which inclued a gtriple bogey 6 at the short third and a double bogey 6 at the fourth. She did not par a hole until the eight in an outward 46.
MacRae was more like her old self in an inward half of 35 with a birdie at the long 15th but the damage had been done.
The silver lining for Heather is that she has moved up to fifth place in the LETAS Order of Merit and the top five after just one more 2013 tournament will gain automatic promotion to the 2014 Ladies European Tour without going through the LET Q School process.
Musselburgh's Vikki Laing finished the leading Scot in joint fifth place on 230 after a closing score of 76. Like MacRae, Laing found the opening holes difficult and she bogeyed the first fourth.
Having made progress up the leaderboard with birdies at the short eighth, and two long holes, the 11th and 15th, Vikki dropped back again with bogeys at the 14th, 16th and 18th.
Alford's Laura Murray (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre), the only other Scot to survive the 36-hole cut, slumped to a closing 82 for a share of 25th place on 238. Laura double bogeyed the third and sixth in halves in 44 and 38.
Championship winner by two strokes was Spain's Mireia Prat with a 72 for 10-over-par 226

Mireia Prat wins the CostaBlanca Ladies Open
Mireia Prat won the CostaBlanca Ladies Open today, the penultimate
event on the 2013 LET Access Series schedule, played at the Font del
Llop Resort, near Alicante.
The Spaniard added her second title of the season on LETAS (the feeder tour to the Ladies European Tour) with a total of 226 (+10), after her first victory last May at the Ocho Golf Ladies Open Galicia. This victory also confirms her position at the top of the LETAS Order of Merit, with the last remaining event in Turkey, from 28th to 30th November.
Mireia Prat triumphed after a final round of level par, two less than England’s Holly Calvert and Italian Vittoria Valvassori and three ahead of France's Marion Ricordeau. There was a battle in the final round between Ricordeau and Prat, who played together, that seemed more match play than stroke play. Both players were tied after teeing off from the 16th tee. On the 17th, Prat was leading by one shot and on the par 5 18th, Ricordeau chose to go for the green with her second shot, coming up short in the water and finished with a double bogey, which handed the title to the Spanishwoman. "The front nine have been very hard, with flags in very difficult positions, the wind was blowing and it was quite complicated. I knew that if I continued to play my game and do it well, I could have chances, but you never know with the wind. I have won but my feeling is that I could also have finished tenth instead"
"When this tournament was announced a month ago, all my Spanish friends were very excited and thrilled. For me in particular, I do not think it was the best, but now that I have won, I prefer not to say anything. The Font del Llop Resort course is good, and it was in very good conditions for this tournament, very demanding and always challenging your game. "
The CostaBlanca Ladies Open 2013 has a total prizefund of 25,000 euros and is, after Ocho Golf Ladies Open Galicia , the second professional women's tournament to be played this season in Spain within the LET Access Series.
The LET Access Series consists of fifteen events this year and the top five in the final Order of Merit will have the chance to participate on the Ladies European Tour in 2014 .
Font del Llop , a venue that guarantees a good event
The Font del Llop Golf Resort, which will also host the Professional Senior Championship from the 5 – 7th December, was opened in May 2010 and is located just 10 minutes from Alicante airport. Designed by Blake Stirling and Marco Martin, it presents a links style technical golf course, with a number of water hazards that create additional challenges.
