WHITGIFT FROM SOUTH CROYDON WIN ISGA EURO TITLE IN SPAIN
NEWS RELEASE FROM THE
INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS GOLF ASSOCIATION
The
inaugural ISGA European championships took place this week at the
Villaitana resort in Spain.
Schools had three competitive rounds to decide
the team winners and two competitive rounds to decide the individual
winners.
Players played the par 72 Jack Nicklaus courses with the first day 4
ball better ball towards the team score.
After the first day's play
Whitgift led the way with a great score of 107, 17 under par followed
by Kings Taunton on 116 and Jason Floyd from Malaga on 119.
In the nett
team event Perse lead the way with an incredible 88,36 under par,
closely followed by Whitgift A team on 95 and Winchester on 97.
The
second round took place on the par 72 Levente course with Patrick Cartwright
(Kings Taunton) taking the lead with a great round of 4 under par 68 closely followed by George Mullins (Whitgift) on 3 under.
The
weather was great every day and the players also enjoyed the 5 star
hotel and its many pools. The teachers had their own competition going
with a few side bets.
On
the third competitive day the players were back on the challenging
Poniente course where accuracy was the key. Whitgift kept their scores
going to take the trophy.
In the nett event Winchester forged ahead to take the trophy by 6 shots.

In
the Individual Gross competition George Mullins from Whitgift took the
trophy with a great score of 126 (8 under par) made up round of 69 (three under) and 57 (five under).]
Second place went to
Jack Keating from Winchester on 130 (4 under par). In the under 15
competition Alfie Fox from Whitgift took the trophy with a 130 (4 under
par), second place went to Victor Jiminez looking to follow in his
fathers footsteps with a 131 (3 under par)
In
the nett event Patrick Cartwright from Kings Taunton took the trophy
with 115 followed by Alex Cheung Winchester on 116. In the under 15
category George Kemp from Whitgift took the trophy on count back from
Victor Jiminez on 119.
The teachers' event, run by Dennis Breakwell from Kings, was won by James Reiss from Jason Floyd Malaga
Trophies
and prizes from GALVIN GREEN and BRIDGESTONE GOLF were awarded to the
players by David and Alex Quin.

Next year's championships are due to be held at the same time in Spain
