LOXLEY, Alabama -- The University of Louisiana-Monroe women’s golf team concluded their fall/autumn season with another win, finishing atop the leaderboards in both team and individual competition of the Steelwood Preview, hosted by the University of South Alabama.
This was the third win for the women’s team this fall; two of which included wins in both team and individual competition.
After posting a 16-over 304 in the first round of the tournament, the Warhawks shot a 7-over 295 to finish play with a 23-over 599; the team finished 16 strokes ahead of WKU, who carded a 39-over 615 after two rounds.
ULM had four players finish in the top ten, including Yorkshire-born sophomore (second-year) student Alison Knowles, who followed up her record-setting win last month with another outstanding performance, finishing six shots clear of a field of 44 players over only 36 holes.
Knowles finished with a 4-under 140 after posting a 68 in round two. She has now won four times since she enrolled at ULM in August 2012.
Kathy Sterling tied for third place with a 5-over 149, while Angela No and Ines Fendt finished in a four-way tie for tenth with an 11-over 155; Emily Stratton was just two strokes behind with a 13-over 157.
“I am very happy with the way we ended our fall season. We had a pretty remarkable last couple of months with three wins and a runner up. I think the girls are looking forward to the off season to rest and catch up on their studies,” head coach Stacy Snider said
“We will continue to work on becoming stronger both mentally and physically to make a run for the Sun Belt championship this spring.”
The Warhawks will return to action in February at the Le Triomphe Tournament, hosted by McNeese State
Coach Snider told Kirkwoodgolf.co.uk later:

"Alison Knowles is a very talented golfer with a high golf IQ. Since arriving in Monroe in August 2012 her game has been improving immensely. In her first season as a Warhawk she had numerous top 10 finishes and one individual title as well as being named to the All Sun Belt Conference player as a freshman.

"This season in just five events Alison has continued to improve and has produced three individual tournament titles including shooting a tie for the lowest round to date in Division 1 with a
64.

"Alison is a great student athlete that also excels in the class room
with 3.7 grade point average. Aside from being a great student athlete, Alison is very coachable and always wants to perform to the best of her ability.

"I have really enjoyed watching her grow as a person as well as a
golf her and I know she will continue to have great success.
