CHARLEY HULL'S EXAMPLE SHOULD INSPIRE HEATHER and CO ON 2014 LET
Sally Watson driving in Morocco with her caddie-dad Graham in the background, writes Colin Farquharson .
Sally's joint second place finish in the LET Final Q School at Marrakech earned her Category 8 membership and will see her
play in most of the events on the 2014 schedule.
So how many competitions will the Scots who gained Category 9b membership, i.e. outside the top 31 totals at the Q School - Heather MacRae, Kelsey MacDonald, Pamela Feggans and Michele Thomson - get into in 2014?
That's the question Kirkwoodgolf put to Bethan Cutler, the LET Media Manager. Her answer:
"Regarding Category 9b membership, I cannot confirm exactly how many events that will allow people in that category to play. It also depends on where they sit on that final list.
"Obviously, the higher up the better the chance of getting into a field. Judging by last year's example of Leigh Whittaker who tied for 31st at the Final Q School, she played in eight tournaments in 2013, mostly in destinations away from Continental Europe such as South Africa, Morocco, China etc."
I hope that the example of Charley Hull who won the 2013 LET Rookie of the Year Award inspires Heather MacRae, Kelsey MacDonald, Pamela Feggans and Michele Thomson in the
2014 season.
Charley finished 36th at last year's LET Final Q School, the same mark as Vikki Laing, the only Scot to make the last day in 2012.
Charley, pictured right, showed that it's not so much about how many LET events you get into, but how well you perform in them. She did so well with top 5 and top 10 finishes that she was a wild-card selection for the winning Solheim Cup team and won herself a tidy sum of money in her rookie pro season.
