PD and MS ENERGY SPONSORSHIP TAKES FINANCIAL PRESSURE OFF MICHELE THOMSON

Michele Thomson: Bidding to return to the Ladies European Tour

NEWS RELEASE
A former amateur golf champion, who has returned to the sport following a three-year break, is targeting further success thanks to the backing of an Aberdeen firm.
Michele Thomson has teamed up with leading oil and gas engineering consultancy PD and MS Energy as she aims to make her return to the Ladies European Tour.
A former pupil at Ellon Academy, Michele is an honorary member at the town’s McDonald Golf Club. She was first introduced to the sport at the age of 11 by her father, Graham, and brother, Mark, who are both keen golfers themselves.
In May 2008, Michele won the Scottish Amateur Championship at Lossiemouth. That same year she competed for Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup match against the United States at St Andrews. The following year she turned professional and played on the Ladies European Tour where her highest finish was joint 14th.
Michele then made the decision to take a complete break from the sport which included a spell working as a police officer in Aberdeen.
“Having played competitively for so many years I felt I needed a break from the game,” said Michele.
“At the beginning of this year, however, my family helped persuade me to go back to my dream. I realised that it was a waste not to use the talent that I had been given.
“A lot has changed in the time I’ve been away – it seems there is more interest in the women’s game than there was a few years ago and more financial support available to encourage young women into the sport.
“I’d like to thank PD and MS Energy for their support. It has taken a lot of pressure off me, while knowing that someone is there to back you with the travel and other expenses has allowed me to relax and concentrate on my golf.”
Michele, 25, currently competes in the LET Access Series, the official feeder competition to the Ladies European Tour. The season, which runs from March to November, has seen her travel the continent.
She also plays on the Paul Lawrie Ladies Golf Tour where she finished 10th in this season’s order of merit. Michele was also the only female golfer invited to play at the Northern Open, organised by the Scottish PGA, which was held at Meldrum House, Oldmeldrum in late August.
Dave MacKay, chief executive officer of PD and MS Businesses, said: “We’re delighted to support Michele in any way we can. She’s certainly proven herself to be a top competitor with her recent form and we wish her the very best with the rest of the season.”
Michele adds: “I feel I’ve improved at a number of aspects of my game, although I was surprised how quickly I was able to get back to good form following my absence. I feel like I have more confidence in my ability and have improved at the tactical side of the game.
“In December, I will be competing for my European Tour card where only the Top 30 will make it I’d love to win a tournament in the future but I’m taking things one step at a time and putting all my work into qualifying for next year’s tour.”
Aberdeen-based PD and MS Energy delivers full project management and design engineering support to the oil and gas industry. The company focuses upon brownfield engineering including upgrades and fabric maintenance for platforms and rigs.
