SCOT FIONA LIDDELL TEES OFF WITH A 78 IN JUNIOR ORANGE BOWL
Fiona Liddell, the only Scot in the Junior Orange Bowl boys and girls' golf championships at the Biltmore course, Coral Gables in Florida, started with a seven-over-par 78 today (Friday).
The daughter of Falkirk-born Stephen Liddell, a club pro in
Germany, birdied the 10th and 18th but also had a double bogey 6
at the 17th and seven bogeys.
Canadian Brooke Henderson, ranked No 9 among the world's
female amateurs, was the early leader with a three-under-par 68.
Japan's Asuka Kashiwabara, runaway winner of the R and A Junior Open at Fairhaven GC, Lancashire in 2012, was heading for a share of the lead until she had a double bogey 6 at the 17th and finished with a one-under 70.

STEPHEN LIDDELL REPORTS:
Fiona
played ok and shot 78. That wasn't too bad considering it's a 6,100yd course and we've had torrential
showers, so it is playing very long.
The pity was bogeys at 15 and 16 followed by a douoble bogey at 17.
After really fighting hard over the earlier holes.
Fiona is hitting woods/hybrids for her second shots at 12 of the holes!
She played with the Canadian girl, Brooke Henderson, who is a very impressive player. We
practised hard in the afternoon after the first round so all go tomorrow.
Stephen
It's a joke that no boy from Scotland is playing - have you seen how strong the international fields are? The other countries think it is too important a junior
tournament to miss.
