CORAL SPRINGS (Florida) – Two players from areas which are not considered golf hotbeds of the world share the first-round lead of the 83rd Men’s Dixie Amateur Thursday.  Andri Bjornsson from Iceland and Richard Donegan from Okeechobee, Florida, posted identical six-under par 66 at the Woodlands Country Club in nearby Tamarac where the first two rounds will be played.
In the women’s division,  France’s Shannon Aubert shot her third-consecutive under par round and opened a three-shot lead  over two players heading into the final round at Heron Bay Golf Club.
Only 15 of the more than 200 players were able to break par at Woodlands in the men’s division, while only six women were able to break par at Heron Bay.
Both ClubLink facilities were made more difficult again Thursday because of the gusty winds which blew in from the ocean most of the day.
Two players were tied one-stroke back in the men’s division. McCormick Clouser, from Bluffton, Indiana., and Mickey Werenski from South Hadley, Massachusetts, were at 67, one shot ahead of Bob Campione, who resides up the interstate in Palm Coast.
Local favorite and 2012 champion Curtis Thompson opened with an even-par 72 and is six behind, tied for 24th .
Aubert is at 209 after a 71 and leads Nicole Morales and Windermere, Florida resident Simin Feng. Feng had the day’s best round, a three-under par 69 while Morales, from South Salem, New York State, posted a 73.
At 213 in fourth place is Riverdale, Georgia, resident Mariah Stackhouse (72).  Meghan Stasi from nearby Oakland Park, Florida, is another stroke back after her 72. Also within striking distance is defending champion and University of Florida senior Isabelle Lendl, who posted her second-consecutive 73 and is at 215.

A total of 62 women made the cut at 16-over par and advanced to the final round. The men who make the 36-hole cut will move to Heron Bay for rounds three and four while those who miss the cut will be eligible to compete in the inaugural Woodlands Winter Invitational,
