Barranquilla is the "windy city" of Colombia and the coastal town lived up to its reputation on the second day of the South American men's and women's open amateur golf championships today (Thursday).
Aberdeen-born Gemma Dryburgh, runner-up in last year's British women's amateur stroke-play championship at Prestwick and a student at Tulane University, New Orleans, and the rest of the early-starting women's field had to contend with a 30mph wind and did well to keep a 6 off her card until the very last hole. She finished with a five-over-par 77 and shares the halfway lead on 150 with Finland's Oona Vartiaine who has had a pair of 75s.
First-round leader Cynthia Diaz (Colombia) was blown away to an 84 - 12 shots more than she took on the opening day.
Scottish champion Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) fared worse than that in the wind. She signed for an 86 and is well down the field on 164.
