CHLOE AND ANNABEL STILL ON LEADER'S TAIL WITH A ROUND TO GO IN "tHE SALLY"
World No 6 female amateur Brooke Mackenzie Henderson, pictured above, from Smith Falls, near Ottawa in Canada, had led all the way so far in "The Sally," the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur which is arguably the main 72-hole stroke play tournament on the Orange Blossom Tour in Florida.
But the 16-year-old recent winner of the girls' Junior Orange Bowl at Coral Gables, Florida has not shaken off her main challengers, Welsh cap Chloe Williams from Wrexham and England 17-year-old international Annabel Dimmock from Wentworth.
The last round on Saturday should be mighty interesting.
Henderson had a third-round 70, two under par for the Oceanside Country Club's course at Ormond Beach. That gave her a 54-hole tally of three-under 213.
Henderson temporarily recovered the form which saw her jump clear of the field with an opening-day 67. Today she birdied the first, second, fifth and seventh and was still four-under-par through the turn in 32.
Then the star lost its glitter and she bogeyed the 10th, long 12th and 15th, and it took a birdie at the long 17th to get her home in two-over 38 and still retain a one-stroke lead.
Chloe Williams was actually sharing the pole polsition when she bogeyed the last for a 70 and 214.
The Wrexham player birdied the first, second and eight before a bogey at the ninth put her out in 34. aother bogey, at the 10th, had her wobbling but Chloe got the bit between her teeth again to birdie the long 12th and short 16th, only to drop that shot at the 18th for 36 home.
Annabel Dimmock had fewer variations from par than the two players ahead of her. Annabel birdied the second, sixth and 11th in halves of 35 and 36 for a 71 and 216 - three shots off the pace. She bogeyed the fifth and 15th.
Kelsey MacDonald, a graduate of Stirling and a winner on the Orange Blossom Tour before she turned professional, will caddie for Annabel in the final round. Annabel is travelling with the Stirling party and Kelsey is out there too in a coaching capacity.
Leading Scot, Stirling PE student Eilidh Briggs had a 77 and is tied 10th on 226 alongside American Meghan Stasi, winner of last week's Harder Hall Invitational.
Eilidh had four birdies - at the fifth. long sixth, short 16th and 18th - to offset a rash of bogeys and worse in halves of 37 and four-over 40
The Kilmacolm player bogeyed the short fourth, the eighth and short ninth. She then got into a rut that saw her drop six shots over the first four holes of the inward half.
Bogeys at the 10th, 11th and long 12th were bad enough but it was unlucky 13 for Eilidh with a triple bogey 7.
But give the kid credit for a gutsy finish - birdies at the short 16th and 18th saw her finish with reasons to be cheerful.
Another former Scottish U18 girls champion, Lauren Whyte from the St Regulus club, St Andrews, had a 74 for joint 15th place on 233.
Lauren opened with a double bogey 6 but had wiped out that deficit by the time she got to the turn in one-under 35, thanks to birdies at the second, long seventh and eighth.
A bogey at the long 12th was followed by birdies at the 13th and short 14th but it was an uphill struggle over the last three holes which saw her drop four shots with a double bogey 5 at the short 16th followed by bogeys at he 17th and 18th for 39 home.
Rachel Polson, a Florida Tech student from Peterculter near Aberdeen, had a 77 for joint 24th position on 237. Rachel had not birdies on her card which showed bogeys at the fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth and 16th in halves of 40 and 37.
