NEWS RELEASE FROM CARNOUSTIE
Carnoustie Golf Links Elects Pat Sawers as New Chairman
The Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee (CGLMC) has voted Pat Sawers as new Chairman.
Sawers,
whose father served on the Links Management Committee as Greens
Convenor, has been a season ticket holder at Carnoustie and member of
the oldest functioning
ladies golf club in the world, Carnoustie Ladies, since 1997.
She
subsequently became Captain of the ladies club in 2010, the same year
she joined the CGLMC. A year later, Sawers became PR convenor and was
elected Vice Chairman
in 2012.
“I’m
simply overjoyed to represent Carnoustie as Chairman. The Links is in
my blood, has been a significant part of my family’s life and is
something I’m extremely proud
to be associated with,” said Sawers, who currently plays of a handicap
of 9.
“With
the Amateur Championship returning in 2015, I’m taking over at the
start of another exciting chapter in the history of our great Links, and
I’m thoroughly looking
forward to the coming years.
“Carnoustie
Golf Links Management Committee has a first class Board of Directors,
with a wealth of experience. I’m honoured to have been elected.”
The
Links Management Committee has managed the golf courses at Carnoustie
since 1901, aside from a brief, 12 year period between 1967 and 1979
during which Carnoustie
Town Council had control. Sawers is the first lady to be elected
Chairman and follows in the footsteps of her uncle, who was elected
Chairman in 1979.
