REPORT BY LEE HARRINGTON
Three beautiful days of clear blue skies, chilly breeze in the morning but daytime temperatures
getting up to the mid-20s for the 54-hole
Hacienda del Alamo Open, the final event on
the 2014 Hacienda del Alamo February Golf
Festival
Some top quality golf played also, especially
from Nicola Callander, daughter of golf writer
Colin Callander and winner of the Scottish
Under-21 girls stroke-play at Blairgowrie a
couple of years ago.
Nicola, who will enrol at the University of Mississippi in August, shot rounds of 74, 71 and 76 for a total of 221 to win the Ladies' scratch title by four shots from Rochelle Morris, a +1 player at Woodsome Hall (Nicola plays off three at Mill Green).
Rochelle had three rounds of 75 for 225.
Charlotte Austwick, a +1 member of Fulford GC, Yorkshire, who played well on the Paul Lawrie Scottish Ladies Tour last year, finished third on 240 with scores of 78, 85 and 77.
The lowest net in the Ladies' category was also returned by Nicola Callander (212) from Rochelle Morris (228) and Charlotte (243).
The Senior Ladies' title - the over-50s category entry was into double figures - was played on a Stableford basis and Karen Dawson, one of six Fleetwood GC, Lancashire entries, won with 78 pts off a handicap of 24. Clubmate Linda Marr, playing off 23, tied for second place with Diana Hudson (Royal Guernesy) (9) on the 74pt mark.
In the Under-18 girls' section, Hannah Screen (Berkhampstead) tied with Georgia Oboh (Bury) on gross 233 with Rachel Thompson (Cork) third on 262.
Hannah (215 off six) had the lowest net scot, ahead of Georgia Oboh (4) 221 and Megan Graham (La Grand Mare) (13) 231.
Everyone praised the event, and promising to spread the word for next year to try and get the numbers back up.

Off for two weeks now to play in a couple of pro-ams ... cannot wait!
