MICHELE THOMSON MISSES CUT AFTER LATE BOGEYS
SALLY WATSON IN TOP TEN AT
HALFWAY IN NZ WOMEN'S OPEN
Edinburgh-born Sally Watson (Elie and Earlsferry), pictured, is in joint eighth position at the halfway stage of the ISPS Handa New Zealand Women's Open at Christchurch.
The former Curtis Cup Scot, who spent four years at Stanford University - Tiger Wood's alma mater - in California, has had rounds of 72 and 70 for two-under-par 142, the same mark as England's Charley Hull, another former Curtis Cup player, who has scored 69-73.
She is six shots behind the leader by two, lesser known American Anya Alvarez (70-66 for 136).
Lydia Ko, the 16-year-old wonder girl of pro golf and the defending champion, is now in second place on 138 after a pair of 69s.
Vikki Laing from Musselburgh is finding her true form after a run of disappointing scores. She has scored 71-72 for 143 and a place in the top 290 at T16.
Pamela Pretswell came back to form with a bang, shooting a 68 - 10 better than Round 1 - for 146 and T41 place, making the cut on the limit mark.
Sadly, Aberdeenshire's Michele Thomson, well placed after an opening round of 70, missed the cut by one shot with a 77 for 147.
Michele, also a past Curtis Cup player and Scottish women's amateur champion also at Lossiemouth in 2008, bogeyed the last two holes.
Kylie Walker, who recently scored her first pro win, also missed the cut with scores of 73 and 76 for 149.
Carly Booth, the Comrie, Perthshire lass, is meantime only a shadow of the player who won more than once in Europe. She missed the cut by 13 shots with scores of 79 and 80 for 159.
