MORE NEWS FROM THE US COLLEGE GOLF CIRCUIT

HAYLEY AND BRONTE TIED SIXTH AT

REGIONAL CHALLENGE IN CALIFORNIA

Two GB and I Curtis Cup team selection contenders Hayley Davis (Baylor) and Bronte Law (UCLA) are lying joint sixth in a field of 88 players at the end of the first day in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club, California.
Over a par-71 course of 6,017yd, both girls shot 71.
Hayley, from Wimborne, Dorset, birdied the first and long seventh in an outward 33 but dropped shots at the 12th and 13th.

Bronte, pictured, from Bramhall, Cheshire, a winner on the US circuit and still in her freshman year, bogeyed the third  but moved into red figures when she birdied the long fifth and 11th. Unfortunately the UCLA student  ran up a double bogey 7 at the long 16th and needed a birdie at the 18th to salvage a par 71.
Elizabeth Mallett (North Carolina) is T24 on 73 after a bad start and a bad finish but birdies at 11th and the 14th. The former British girls championship finalist from Sutton Coldfield  bogeyed the first, second, 15th and 18th.
Surrey-born, Singapore-raised Charlotte Thomas (Washington) is T28 on 74 after a a round that had as many "downs" as "ups."
She had double bogeys at the short third and par-4 13th but birdies at the long fifth, ninth, 12th and 16th. She also bogeyed the first, 11th and 18th.
Former Scottish schoolgirls champion when she was a pupil at Loretto School, Musselburgh, Julie Yang (Oklahoma State) is T545 after a 77.
Annie Park (Southern California) leads with a four-under-par 67, a shot ahead of Louise Gateau-Chovelon (Baylor) and Yu Liu (Duke).
