JAMES ROSS MAKES STEADY START
Royal Burgess member James Ross, pictured, a final-year student at Houston University, shot a par-matching 72 over a 6,967yd course at the Golf Club of Houston, Humble in Texas to be sharing 23rd place in a field of 87 players at the end of the first round in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
Team-mate Wesley McClain and Caleb Sturgeon (South Carolina) share the lead on 68.
Houston (280) lead the three-day team event from Texas (285), Arizona (287) and South Carolina, Rice and Baylor, all on 288 in a field of 15 teams.
