Karen Paolozzi won the PGA of America's women’s stroke play championship by three strokes with a final-round 73 that passed Ashley Grier at the Port St Lucie, Florida venue.
Paolozzi, of Roswell, Georgia, had been runner-up in her first trip to the PGA of America's women's stroke play last year – six shots back of Grier, of Chevy Chase, Maryland
“I was just trying not to make any big mistakes today,” said Paolozzi.
“The birdie at the sixth hole was a surprise. I chipped in from in front of the green, about 20 yards, and I was just trying to get the ball over the water on my second shot at 18.”
Grier closed with a 76 that included a double bogey at the last.
“I just didn’t play very well today, especially on the back nine," Grier said.
Next up for Paolozzi: a job search. The former assistant at Chagrin Valley Country Club in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, is on the move after her husband, Vinnie, accepted a job as first assistant at Cherokee Town and CC in Dunwoody, Georgia
