SCOT MAKES SOLID START IN BIG AUSTRALIAN FIELD

VIKKI LAING'S 76 PUTS HER IN JT 13th

PLACE IN WOMEN'S VICTORIA OPEN


Vikki Laing, the only Scot in a field of 95, was in joint 13th position at the end of the first round of the Women's Victoria Open golf championship at Thirteenth Beach Golf Club, Australia today.
The Musselburgh player (pictured) shot a three-over-par 76 with birdies at the fifth and ninth, cancelled out by bogeys at the first, fourth, seventh,14th and 15th.
Australian Sarah-Jane Smith leads with a 69, three shots ahead of England's Laura Davies, Kent-born Aussie Lindsey Wright and Australian amateur Su-Hyun Oh.
The field will be cut to the leading 50 and ties for the final two rounds.
