NCAA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP TO 

CHANGE TO MEN'S FORMAT FROM 2015

The United States college golf's Division 1 Championships/Sports Management Cabinet approved changes to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship format on Wednesday, effective in 2015, at the Concession Club in Bradenton, Florida.
Following the same path as the men's tournament, the women's individual title will now consist of 54 stroke-play holes, a cut to the low 36 players (and ties) and then 18 final holes on the fourth day of competition.
Meanwhile, on the third day of competition, the top eight teams will be determined for match-play competition. 
Team play will subside on the fourth day to put a focus on the individual championship.
On the fifth day, the team quarter-finals and semi-finals will be held, leading up to the final being played on the sixth day.
The current format is a four-day, 72-hole competition that dictates both the individual and team champions.
Other changes approved by the cabinet on Wednesday, starting in 2017, included that the regional dates will be on the Monday through Wednesday, 11 days prior to the start of the NCAA Championships.
Also starting in 2017, the selections for the regionals will move to the last Thursday in April that is at least 10 days prior to the start of regional competition.
