THREE ENGLISH, TWO IRISH PLAYERS ADVANCE TO LAST 16
THREE SCOTS BEATEN IN FIRST ROUND
OF SPANISH WOMEN'S AMATEUR
Three English and two Irish players are through to the last 16 of the Spanish women's amateur championship at El Saler Golf Club.
Scotland's three qualifiers for the match-play stages all fell at the first hurdle today.
Annabel Dimmock (Wentworth), 20th of the 32 qualifiers, won by 2 and 1 against the No 13 qualifier, M Martin (Spain).
Alexandra Peters (Notts Ladies), the 23rd qualifier, squeezed through at the 19th against the No 10 seed, Luna Sobron, the Spanish player who reached the final of the British women's open amateur championship at Machynys, South Wales last June.
Gabriella Cowley, the 15th qualifier, won by 3 and 2 aaisnt M Wold, the 18th qualifier from Norway.
Ireland's Chloe Ryan, the eighth seed, recorded one of the biggest wins of the first day of match-play.
She won by 8 and 7 against B Amoros (Spain).
Paula Grant, the sixth seed from Ireland, won by 2 and 1 against Lauren Whyte from St Andrews, the No 27 qualifier.
Scottish champion Alyson McKechin (Elderslie), the No 21 qualifier, went down by 3 and 2 to the 12th qualifier, Italy's V Carta.
Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm), the 26th qualifier, lost by 5 and 4 to the seventh seed, A Olarra (Spain).
