TOURNAMENT NEWS FROM US COLLEGE CIRCUITS

STEPHANIE SHOWS CURTIS CUP CLASS

WITH A 68 AT PUERTO RICO

Stephanie Meadow (Alabama) from Northern Ireland showed her Curtis Cup team form with a four-under-par second round of 68 in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club, San Juan yesterday.
That was a seven-shot improvement on her opening round and lifted Stephanie (pictured left) up to a share of fifth place on one-under 143 - four strokes behind the leader, Aurora Kim (Purdue) (71-68 for five-under 139)
Meadow, from Jordanstown, Northern Ireland originally, had six birdies and a double bogey in her excellent round. It was her third double bogey in 36 holes or else she would probably be in tghe lead.
Carnoustie's Jess Meek (Missouri) improved by even more than Stephanie. Jee had a two-under-par 70 on the second day compared with a first-round 79.
On 149, Meek is sharing 27th place. She had four birdies and two bogeys in her second round.
Sadly, Scottish-born Rachael Taylor (North Carolina State) did not share in the significant improvements although she did shave two shots off her first-day 81 for a 79. But Rachael has not had a single birdie over the first 36 holes and she is joint 73rd on 160 in a field of 81 players.
Arkansas, who had three players, Emma Lavy (73-68), Gaby Lopez (73-68) and Emnily Tubert (68-73) sharing second place on 141, two off the pace, are leading the team event by seven shots from GRU Augusta with Northwestern a further seven shots behind in third place of 15 teams.
