BUCS STUDENT TOUR EVENT IN COLD, WINDY WEATHER
ANDREW WILSON, MIRANDA BRAIN
WINNERS AT DUNDONALD LINKS
Andrew Wilson (Northumbria University) and Miranda Brain (St Andrews University) headed the respective men's and women's competitions in the BUCS Student Tour 54-hole tournament at Dundonald Links, Ayrshire.
In windy and cold conditions Andrew won by four shots with a total of 224 (72-75-77).
Runner-up on 228 was Stuart McLaren (Edinburgh) with scores of 73 74 and 81, a shot ahead of third placed Craig Chalmers (Strathclyde) (77-73-79) on 229.
The weather was so bad for the final round that only five players broke 80 and a 75 by Andrew Cunningham (Strathclyde), who finished joint sixth, was the best.
In the women's competition, Miranda Brain, pictured, successfully defended the title she won last year. Miranda had scores of 81, 76 and 85 for a total of 242
She won by two shots from team-mate Gabrielle Macdonald (81-84-79) with Amy Chambers, leader through the first and second rounds (76-79-91), completing a St Andrews 1-2-3 with a 246 total.
