ENGLAND WOMEN LEAD NATIONS CUP, DIMMOCK No 1 INDIVIDUAL
Annabel Dimmock, lowest second-round score in Spain
ANNABEL'S 68 ANOTHER BOOST TO
HER CURTIS CUP TEAM HOPES
An excellent round of four-under-par 68 by Wentworth teenager Annabel Dimmock put her three shots clear of the field in the individual event
and England two ahead in the European Nations Cup at Sotogrande on Spain's Costa del Sol today.
Annabel, only 17, whose winning form on the Florida Orange Blossom Tour in January followed by her reaching the final of the Spanish international women's amateur championship last weekend, is a red-hot tip to make the GB and I team to defend the Curtis Cup at St Louis, Missouri in June.
She improved by five shots on her first-round 73 and, with a three-under-par tally of 141, is three shots in front of Spain's Luna Sobron (73-71) who was beaten finalist in last year's British women's open amateur championship at Machynys, South Wales.
The next best British players on the scoreboard are Wales' Chloe Williams (76-75) and Vagliano Trophy player Gabriella Cowley (74-77). They are tied ninth on 150.
In a remarkable contrast of second-day fortunes, former British stroke play champion Sarah-Jane Boyd shot an 86 - 18 shots more than team-mate Annabel Dimmock required!
Only two of a team's three scores count daily which meant England could discount that 86 and count the 68 from Dimmock and the 77 by Cowley to boost their total to 291 after 36 holes.
Host nation Spain come next on 293 and then there's a four-shot gap to third-place France and a further six shots before you come to Italy.Wales are on 304.
Scotland and Ireland did not enter teams to the women's Nations Cup
