NEWS OF WEEKEND US WOMEN'S COLLEGE TOURNAMENTS

MEGHAN MacLAREN MAKES TOP TEN 

IN CLOVER CUP AT MESA IN ARIZONA 

Curtis Cup team selection contender Meghan MacLaren, whose mother Mary, also a Wellingborough GC member has been chosen to make her debut for the Irish seniors against the Scottish vets in the Mary McKenna Trophy match, climbed up from 14th place overnight to a joint seventh finish in a field of 87 players at the weekend in the Clover Cup 54-hole college tournament hosted by Notre Dame Univesity at Longbow Golf Club, Mesa, Arizona.
Over a par-72 course of 6,209yd, Meghan, a winner three times in her freshman year and the reigning Irish women's open amateur stroke-play champion, had scores of 75, 73 and 73 for 221.
Playing the second nine first, second-year student Meghan, birdied the 15th, third, eighth and ninth. The two late birdies pushed her up to a tie for seventh place ... but she could have made joint fifth place but for a double bogey 6 at the sixth ... her only double bogey in 54 holes.
There were four other English girls in the field.
Dulcie Sverdloff (Kennesaw State), a freshman from Southend, finished T23 on 223 (77-73-73).
Heidi Baek (Maryland), a sophomore from Suffolk, came 20th on 224 (77-69-78).
Meghan's team-mate, Sophie Godley, a sophomore from Notts, finished 73rd on 240 (77-82-81) and Jessica Gregory (Maryland), a sophomore from Sittingbourne, tied for 78th place on 244 (79-82-83).
The individual winner in a tight finish was Kristina Nhim (Notre Dame) with scores of 68-72-73 for three-under 213 - two ahead of joint runners-up Grace Choi (Michigan) (69-71-74) and second-round leader Jennifer Coleman (Colorado) (69-70-75).
Louiseville (888) pipped hosts Notre Dame (889) for the team title with Colorado (893) third.
Kennesaw State (911) finished ninth; Florida International (922) finished T10 and Maryland (922) were joint 12th in a field of 15 teams.

ELIZABETH HAYCOCK MAKES TOP 10

IN SUN TRUST GATOR INVITE


Another English student in the States to achieve a top-10 finish in a weekend college tournament was Elizabeth Haycock (Old Dominion), pictured above, a senior from Birmingham.
Elizabeth finished T8 in the Sun Trust Gator Women's Invite field of 81 players. She had rounds of 75,74 and 69 for 218 (eight over par for a 6,002yd course at Mark Bostick Golf Club, Florida).
Elizabeth was T38 after two rounds but that final one-under 69 lifted her up 30 placings in the final individual standings. 
Haycock finished only four shots behind the winner, Daniela Darquea (Miami) who had rounds of 74, 73 and 67 for 214.
There were four other English girls in the field.
Brogan Townend (Texas-San Antonio), a sophmore from Blackburn, came 60th on 233 with rounds of 78, 77 and78.
Kim Bradbury (Old Dominion), a senior from Buxton, Derbyshire, and team-mate Charlotte Hindmoor, a sophomore from Darlington, tied for 62nd place on 235. Kim scored 74-82-79, while Charlotte had scores of 76, 80 and 79.
Last but not least, another Old Dominion student,
Rachael Walker, a freshman from Dumfries, finished T68 on 237 with scores of 81, 78 and 78.
Arizona (866) won the team title by a single shot from Kent State with Ohio State (875) third.
Texas-San Antonio (915) fiished 11th and Old Dominion (916) 12th of 14 teams.
