SAN FRANCISCO BAY NATIVES TEAM UP AGAIN
US SOLHEIM CUP CAPTAIN INKSTER
NAMES PAT HURST AS ASSISTANT
Juli Inkster didn’t take long after being named the new U.S. Solheim Cup captain on Monday to name her first assistant for the 2015 match at Heidelberg, Germany.
Inkster is so confident in her long-time friend Pat Hurst that she might not add a second assistant captain.
“I’m just going to play that by ear,” Inkster said.
Inkster, 53, and Hurst, 44, are both San Francisco Bay Area natives. They became close friends after Hurst won the Juli Inkster Scholarship to attend San Jose State.
Like Inkster, Hurst would go on to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur and join the LPGA. Hurst won six LPGA titles, including a major, the ’98 Nabisco Dinah Shore.
Inkster and Hurst have played countless practice rounds together over the years. Their families are close, too.
“Pat’s very detail oriented, I'm not,” Inkster said. “We get along great. She knows what I'm thinking, I know what she's thinking, which is scary.
“I really trust her, and I trust her opinions. She really thinks things out. She might not make a decision right away, but she'll think it out and she'll work it out and then she'll give you her opinion. Sometimes, I kind of go too quickly, so I think she'll be good at reining me in a little bit.”
