SPOTLIGHT ON USA MEN'S COLLEGE GOLF CIRCUIT


MANSELL BEST OF BRITS IN BEARCAT

 CLASSIC - jt EIGHTH IN FIELD OF 89

Lots of British students in the field of 89 players at the Bearcat Classic, played at the Patriot Country Club, Greenwood, South Carolina (March 22-23).
And the highest placed finisher among them was Richard Mansell (Newberry College), a freshman from Staffordshire.
(The Newberry website does not display a picture of Richard so we can't show you one either).
Richard had rounds of 73, 71 and 75 for a total of three-over-par 219 and a joint eighth place finishe behind the winner on five-under-216, Fredrik Lindblom (Clayton State) (67-71-73)
Ross Maietta (King University), a 6ft 4in junior from Bexley) finished T12 on 220 with scores of 73, 74 and 73.
Cameron Buist (Belmont Abbey College), a freshman from Stirlingshire, was joint 14th on 221 with ever-improving scores of 76, 75 and 70.
Two more Brits in the top 20 were Robert Prior (Lander University, Greenwood, Carolina), a junior from Surrey,  with scores of 70-72-72 for 222 and T17, plus Nicholas Ward (Georgia Southwestern), a freshman from Eastbourne, with rounds of 76, 74 and 73 for 19th spot on 223.
Then came Jordan Ainley (Lander), a freshman from Hants, and Matthew Reid (Belmont Abbey), a senior from Dundee, both on the 229 mark and joint 40th. Ainley had scores of 75, 80 and 74; Reid 74, 80 and 75.
Keigh Egan (Clayton State), a sophomore from Newbridge, Ireland, finished T51 on 233 with scores of 75, 78 and 80.
Another Clayton State University, Atlanta student, Ryan Haskell, a junior from Newport, Wales, finished T57 on 234 (78-79-77)
Fraser Johnston (Georgia Southwestern), a freshman from Port Seton, and Max Bell (Lander), a junior from Surrey, tied for 64th place on 235. Johnston had scores of 78, 80 and 77; Bell 79, 81 and 75.
Oliver Van Nairn (Lander), a junior from Middlesex, finished T75 on 239 (80-81-78) and, last but not least, came Taylor Inouye (Belmot Abbey), a senior from Surrey, with scores of 80-81-78 for 241 and 78th place.
Georgia College (873) won the team event. Other placings: 892 Clayton State (5th). 896  Newberry (7th) and 934 Belmont Abbey (16th of 17).
