US COLLEGE TOURNAMENTS UPDATE



SCOTS CALUM HILL, JAMES ROSS HAVE 

TOP TEN FINISHES 

Two Scots achieved top-10 finishes in US college golf tournaments earlier this week.
Calum Hill, pictured right, from North Berwick, a freshman student at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, finished joint sixth in a field of 73 players at the Argent Financial Classic 36-hole tournament at Squire Creek Country Club, Choudrant, Louisiana.
Calum had rounds of 70 and 76 for a two-over-par total of 146, four strokes behind the winner, Pep Angles (Central Arkansas) (70-72).
"We started out really well this morning and moved up early then played poorly on the finishing holes and fell back to seventh,” ULM head coach Walt Williams said.
"We will practise smart this week and get ready for the Border Olympics.”
“Calum had a nice tourney with a top-10 finish and will learn from being in the hunt,” said Williams.

The course had a par of 72 and measured 7,105yd
Other Scots in the field were James Steven (Central Arkansas) from Blantyre, Lawrence Allan (SE Louisiana) from Alva and the Louisiana-Monroe pair, Greg Smail from Musselburgh and Charlie Macneal from Ayrshire.
Steven had rounds of 78 and 74 for 152 and a share of 30th place.

Former Boyd Quaich winner Macneal, pictured left, had scores of 76 and 73 for 149 and a share of 13th place.
Allan shot 79-78 for 157 and joint 47th place.
Smail had rounds of 81-77 for 158 and joint 49th place.
Also in the field was Englishman Richard Farmer, a senior at Central Arkansas. He finished 72nd on 169 (89-80).
North Texas (586) won the team title. Louisiana-Monroe (603) finished seventh and Central Arkansas (608) eighth in a field of 13 teams.
Edinburgh's James Ross, pictured left, a final-year student at Houston University, finished joint eighth in a field of 78 at the SMU Querencia Cabo Collegiate at Querencia Golf Club, Los Cabos, Mexico.
Ross had rounds of 73, 72 and 71 for a total of three-over-par 216 over the par-71, 6,919yd course.
He finished seven shots behind team-mate Roman Robledo whose total of 209 was made up of rounds of 68, 68 and 73.
Other Scots in this field were three Chattanooga students - Ewan Scott from St Andrews, Chris Robb from Banchory and Liam Johnston from Dumfries.
Scott tied for 14th place on 219 (75-71-73); Robb for 38th place on 225 (77-73-75) and Johnston 58th place on 232 (76-73-83)

And Englishman and an Irishman actually did better than the Scots in the Querencia tournament.
Ben Stow, pictured right, from Salisbury, a junior year student at Kentucky, finished T4 on 214 (74-70-70), only five behind the winner.
And Gavin Moynihan, pictured left, from Dublin, a freshman at Alabama, finished T6 on 214 (72-73-71).
Well done, Ben and Gavin!

Houston won the team title ahead of Alabama and Baylor.


DANIEL KEDDIE FRM LINCOLN T12 AT 

DAVIDSON, NORTH CAROLINA

Daniel Keddie from Lincoln, a senior student at Tennessee tied for 12th place in a field of 74 at the Davidson College Invitational at River Run Country Club, Davidson, North Carolina.
He had rounds of 74 and 77 for 151 over a  7,208yd course (par 72).
Winner with an aggregate of 142 (75-67) was Conner Hayden (Radford). He finished a shot ahead of the field.
Steve Jones (Gardner-Webb) from Sawbridgeworth, England finished T22 on 155 (75-80).
Callum Tarren from Darlington, a senior at Radford, shot 82-77 for a share of 36th place on 159.
Tennessee (587) won the team title ahead of Kent State (598) and Radford (612) in a field of 14 teams.
