US COLLEGE GOLF TOURNAMENT NEWS
BEN SKINNER THIRD AT AUSTIN, TEXAS
Former Loretto School student Ben Skinner (pictured) from Hertfordshire, a second-year student at Western New Mexico University, finished joint third of 85 in the St Edward's Invitational collegiate tournament (March 3-4) at Grey Rock Golf Club, Austin, Texas
Ben had rounds of 75-70 for one-over-par 145 over a 6,858yd course.
He finished 11 shots behind the runaway winner - by eight - Adam Svensson (Barry) who had scores of 69-65 for 10-under 134.
Skinner was three shots behind the runner-up, Carr Vernon (CSU-Monterey Bay) (71-71 for 142).
Four other British students at Western New Mexico were in the field.
Harry Wetton, a freshman from Bedford, made the top 10 with scores of 77-69 (good second round!) for 146 and joint eighth place which was also achieved by team-mate Calum Hill, a sophomore from Kinross, who had rounds of 71-75.
Anthony McGeorge, a freshman from Holsworth, England, finished T13 on 148 (77-71) and Tom Neve, a sophomore from Epsom, was T30 on 151 (77-74)
You would have thought that Western New Mexico, with four players in the top 13, would have won the team event - but they did not finish even second!
Barry (570) won the title ahead of CSU-Monterey Bay (583) with Western New Mexico (589) third of 16 teams.
