SCOTS DO VERY WELL IN THIS WEEK'S US COLLEGE GOLF EVENTS

ABOYNE STUDENT WINS BY TWO

STROKES IN NORTH DAKOTA

Daniel Thompsett, a former North-east of Scotland boys' champion from Aboyne and a third-year student at Rocky Mountain College, Billings in Montana, won the two-day Jamestown University Spring Invitational at Jamestown Country Club, North Dakota on Tuesday.
Over a par-72 course of 6,578yd, Daniel had rounds of 74 and 70 for a level par total of 144.
He headed the field of 35 players by two strokes.
Rocky Mountain College won the team title by 16 strokes from a field of five teams.
Thompsett is coached by Andrew Locke at the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre (when he is home on holiday). 

NORTH BERWICK'S LOW WINS IN TEXAS

Chris Low from North Berwick, a second-year student at McLennan College, Waco in Texas, won the NJCAA District 2 Championship at Sugar Treet Golf Club, Dennis, Texas on Tuesday.
Tantallon Golf Club member Chris, pictured left,  shot rounds of 69, 71 and 71 for a one-over-par total of 211 over a par-70 course of 6,859yd.
He headed a field of 61 players by one stroke. McLennan also won the team title by 22 strokes in a field of 10 teams.

LIVINGSTON STUDENT GREG MILLER FOURTH IN KANSAS

Greg Miller from Livingston, a second-year student at Bethany College, Kansas, finished fourth in a field of 39 players at the KCAC Conference Championship at Buffalo Dunes Golf Club, Garden City, in Kansas on Tuesday.
Over a par-72 course of 6,806yd, Greg (pictured above) had rounds of 79, 71 and 78 for a total of 228, six shots behind the winner who had an 80 in the final round which apparently was played in dreadful weather.
Bethany College won the team title by 10 shots from a field of seven.


MUCKHART MAN'S SIXTH TOP 10 

FINISH  OF USA COLLEGE SEASON
 
Calum Hill from Muckhart, a second-year student at Western New Mexico University, finished joint sixth in a field of 45 at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Spring Championship at Estrella Golf Club, Goodyear in Arizona on Tuesday.
It was Hill's sixth top-10 finish of the 2013-2014 US college golf season.

Calum, pictured above, played a big part in Western New Mexico winning their third successive team title since March 24/25 and their fourth in all this season.
Hill. "freshman of the year" at the end of his first season, had rounds of 77, 70 and 73 for a total of 220 over a par-72 course of 7,139yd.
He finished six
shots behind winning team-mate David Metz from Tucson.
On the same 220 mark as Hill was team-mate Harry Wetton, a freshman from Bedford, with scores of 73, 73 and 74.
Thomas Neve, a sophomore from Epsom, finished T12 on 224 with rounds of 73, 76 and 75.
Anthony McGeorge, the fifth member of the Western New Mexico team, finish T33 on 235 with scores of 82, 76 and 77. Anthony is a freshman from Holsworth.
The Western New Mexico Mustangs go forward the weekend after next to the NCAA Division 2 Regional at Grey Rock Golf Club, Austin, Texas.

'AN EXCEPTIONAL GROUP OF KIDS,' SAYS COACH KENT BEATTY

GOODYEAR, Arizona In the zone. The Western New Mexico University men's golf team couldn't be stopped since the start of the second round andthe Mustang express continued on Tuesday as WNMU shot a 296, same as their opening round, to hold off Colorado State-Pueblo by seven-strokes to take the 2014 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships at the par-72, 7,139-yard Golf Club of Estrella Course. 
"It's just an exceptional group of kids. I sent them a Facebook message last year stating that I have had better players, but not a better team," Head Coach Kent Beatty said after the win.
 "They're all exceptional players and you can see in them that they belong. It means that this is the start of an exceptional situation for WNMU golf."
"Being able to win the RMAC is important to us and it is good to have this momentum going into regionals"Dave is the player that every coach wants," Beatty said.
"He came in as a baseball player that has taken every opportunity and you see what has happened to him. I couldn't be more proud." 

FACTS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW
+Western New Mexico University is based in Silver City, New Mexico. Scott Crichton (Aberdour), who has recently turned pro, was also a student there. 
+Calum Hill's most notable golfing achievements in Scotland were to be the Perth and Kinross Under-14s stroke-play champion and  a recipient of a Gleneagles Scholarship. He was Perth and Kinross match-play champion and finish sixth in the Boyd Quaich International Students' Tournament at St Andrews last summer, having been tied for first place at the end of the first day.
RHYS PUGH FINISH JOINT FIFTH  IN 

ATLANTIC SUN CHAMPIONSHIP 
  

Welshman Rhys Pugh (pictured) from Pontypridd, a member of the 2011 winning GB and I Walker Cup team at Royal Aberdeen, finished T5 in a field of 50 at the Atlantic Sun Championship at Chateau Elane Golf Club, Brazelton, Georgia.
Over a par-72 course of 7,032yd, Pugh a third-year student at East Tennessee State, shot rounds of 76, 72 and 71 for three-over-par 219 - four shots behind the winner by three, Trey Rule (Mercer University) (71-73-71 for one-under 215).
Mercer (874) won the team title ahead of Kennesaw State (880) and East Tennessee State (884) in a field of 10 teams.
