CONNIE JAFFREY LYING JOINT NINTH AT HALFWAY IN FRANCE

GABRIELLA COWLEY NOW LEADING

BRIT AT ST CLOUD

Gabriella Cowley, pictured, took over as the leading British player at the halfway stage of the 72-hole French Under-21s' open stroke-play championship for the Esmond Trophy with scores of 71-73 for two-over-par 144 at St Cloud Golf and Country Club near Paris.
She is joint sixth, seven shots behind the leader by four, Sweden's Linnea Strom, who beat Annabel Dimmock from Wentworth in the final of the Spanish women's amateur championship at El Saler last month.
Strom, now 15th in the World Amateur Rankings, slipped back from a 66 to a 71 but her five-under halfway tally of 137 is still three shots clear of her nearest rival, Nanna Madsen (Denmark) 72 68.
Scottish girls champion from last year, Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) is lying noint ninth alongside Dimmock on the 145 mark.
Connie slipped back from an opening 70 to a four-over-par 75, mainly due to a triple bogey 7 at the 10th.
The Troon Ladies player did birdie the long third, the short eighth and the long 15th but that triple plus single bogeys a tthe sixth, seve th, nint and 16th dragged her down to halves of 36 (one over) and 39 (three over).
