SARAH-JANE BOYD WINS HAMPSHIRE ROSE

England halve with France in Under-18 girls'

championship warm-up at St Cloud

England ‘played with heart’ to halve an international match against a team of French U18 girls at St Cloud, near Paris
The match was a warm-up for the French Lady Junior Championship, and the players earned the praise of Rebecca Wood, the England Golf Women’s Performance Manager.

“The players really fought it out and played with heart which was great to see,” she remarked. “We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the course is in stunning condition.”

All but one of the matches was very tight and there was some great play over the closing holes.

Gabriella Cowley finished with three birdies, holing a 35-footer on the last to win. Sammy Fuller  followed her with another grandstand finish, knocking a wood to about 5ft from the hole on the last to secure her point.  Sophie Lamb played a very controlled game and managed the course very well on her way to a win.  The half point was secured by Alice Hewson.

Sarah-Jane Boyd wins Hampshire Rose

English champion Sarah-Jane Boyd has won the 2014 Hampshire Rose at North Hants by three shots, with a seven-under par total for 36 holes.
The Truro player had 10 birdies during the two rounds: three in her morning 70 and seven in her afternoon 69, which was the low-score of the day.

The runner-up was Lizzie Prior from Surrey, who had two rounds of 71 and was four-under par - one shot better than last year when she was third.  Girl international Alice Hewson from Berkhamsted was third with scores of 73 and 71, including six birdies in her afternoon round.

Dorset’s Georgia Hall – the winner for the past two years – missed out this time, having had an eight at the par 5, 16th in the first round.  But she finished in style in the afternoon with an eagle at the same hole followed by two birdies.

Other highlights included a one-under par 72 in the morning round from Woburn’s Shamiso Hatchard, who was playing off four handicap.  Meanwhile Gloucestershire’s Bethan Popel had the second lowest score with a 70 in the afternoon.
