LEINSTER WIN INTERPROVINCIALS
ILGU Women's Interprovincial Matches
Tramore Golf Club, 15 - 17 April 2014
Leinster win Interprovincial title at Tramore Golf Club
In a tight final day contest between Leinster and Ulster, with Ulster looking to retain their title having won last year in Castle Dargan, trailed Leinster 2-1 after the morning foursomes. Ulsters’ Irish Girls Open Strokeplay champion Olivia Mehaffey led the singles line up against Leinster’s Ariana Coyle Diez. The match was tight to start before Olivia carved an impressive lead with birdies at 7, 8 and 12 and was dormie 5 playing 14. Ariana won the 14th and 15th to reduce the deficit before Olivia closed out the match with a 3&2 win.
The match between Leinsters Maria Dunne and Ulsters Jessica Ross was tightly balanced throughout with neither player giving up a hole easily while Leinsters Amy Farrell and Mary Doyle both won by 4&3 margins against their Ulster counterparts. With Leinster only requiring another half match to secure the title, Maria duly obliged finishing with a half against Jessica on the home green. Carlow's Karen Delaney also followed up with a fine win on the 18th against Chloe Weir while Ulster courtesy of Niamh Ward defeated Deirdre Smith 2&1 in the last match..
The match between Connacht and Munster due to take place on Thursday 17th April, was cancelled as a mark of respect to Noel O'Neill, father of Karen O'Neill (Munster team) who died suddenly the night before.
