Alex Peters wins The Leveret with last hole birdie for her first big success of 2104

ENGLAND GOLF NEWS RELEASE
England international Alex Peters scored her first success of the 2014 season with a one stroke win in The Leveret, the prestigious scratch event hosted by Formby Ladies in Lancashire.
Alex birdied the 36th hole of the event, sinking a downhill nine-foot putt for a birdie three to claim the title. She signed off with a second round of four-under 67 which, added to her opening 75, gave her a level par total.
She finished a shot clear of Lancashire’s Hollie Vizard and Cheshire’s Charlotte Leathem. Hertfordshire’s Lucy Goddard was a further stroke back, while English champion Sarah-Jane Boyd of Cornwall was among those sharing fifth place.

“It’s nice to have a win early in the season,” said Alex, who won the 2013 England Golf women’s order of merit, sponsored by Lorrin Golf.

“I didn’t play too well in the morning round, I was just average, but in the afternoon I hit every fairway and had 29 putts, which was very good.” Her impressive putting helped her to amass six birdies in her 67.

Alex, a member of the England Golf women’s squad, was a quarter-finalist in the recent Spanish women’s championship. She will be heading to France later this month to represent England in the French Lady Junior Championship at St Cloud.

Meanwhile, Essex golfer Megan Jenkins led the English challenge at the Irish girls’ open stroke play championship at Roganstown Golf and Country Club. The 16-year-old from West Essex, who was playing  in the event for the first time, finished fifth with scores of 74 70 79.

Girl international Sammy Fuller (Roehampton) was also in the top 10, taking seventh place with rounds of 78 73 75.  Sammy represented England Golf in the Nations Cup competition at the championship, alongside Kirsty Beckwith of Alwoodley, Yorkshire, and Mollie Lawrence of Rochester & Cobham Park in Kent. The event was won by Ireland, whose team included the invididual winner, the defending champion Olivia Mehaffey .
