OLIVIA MEHAFFEY DEFENDS TITLE ON APRIL 5-6
AT ROGANSTOWN
NEWS RELEASE FROM ILGU
Reigning
Irish Girls Open Champion Olivia Mehaffey (Royal Co. Down Ladies)
alongside International team mate Mary Doyle (The Heath) lead the field
of
Irish challengers and this years’ Championship to be staged at
Roganstown Golf and Country Club on April 5 and 6.
An
International Open Championship for girls aged under 18 January
1, 2014, the event has attracted the cream of Europe’s underage golfing
talent
as players vie for valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking points. The
tournament will be the first outing in the season for many of the
players and will be an early indicator for team selectors throughout
Europe.
Olivia Mehaffey returns to Roganstown to defend her title. Mehaffey, who is just 16 years of age, competed in her first Ladies European Tour event when she lined up in the Lalla Meryem Cup at Golf de L’Ocean in Agadir, Morocco in March finishing a very credible 47th.

Mary
Doyle has made a strong start to the season with impressive results at
the Portuguese and Spanish Championships and current form would indicate
she is a favourite for this years’ title.
The
German contingent is strong with Greta Isabella Voelker, Chiara Mertens
and Carolin Kauffmann all returning to Roganstown. Scots Connie
Jaffrey
and Heather Munro also return to the venue along with numerous scratch
players from Scotland, Sweden and England.
The impressive list of entries (cut falling at 7 h’cap) also includes players from Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Iceland, Latvia and Norway in what is a truly European field.
Roganstown Golf and Country Club, a stone's throw from Dublin Airport and listed as one of Golf Monthly’s top 50 Play and Stay Resorts, has proved a very popular venue for the Championship, now hosting a third successive year. The Championship course measures 5,580 yards, with a par of 71 and greens that will test these elite golfers’ ability over the two days.
