Stirling University students almost pulled off a dandy double whammy at the the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Student Golf Tour Championship at Machynys Peninsula Golf Club, South Wales this past week.
Irish amateur champion  Cormac Sharvin, pictured right, a Stirling student, won the men's title by a four-stroke margin over 72 holes.
But Stirling team-mate Hannah McCook from Nethy Bridge and a member at Grantown on Spey Golf Club, lost a sudden-death play-off to a birdie from Ami Storey (Northumbria University) with whom she had tied after 72 holes' regulation play.
Sharvin had rounds of 70, 74, 74 and 71 for an excellent total of one-over-par 289 over the Jack Nicklaus-designed course.
He won by four strokes from Laurie Potter (Exeter University) (75-71-72-75) with another Stirling student, Swiss amateur international Mathias Eggenberger, in third place on 295 (72-79-71-73).
In the women's championship, Ponteland Golf
Club member Ami Storey, pictured right, who played on the United States college circuit when a student at Kansas State University, shot 76-77-74-77 for 304, a total matched by Hannah McCook with scores of 80, 74, 74 and 76.
Hannah, pictured below, started the final round one stroke behind the pacemaking Storey but got on level terms by the end of the fourth round.
The first play-off hole was halved but at the next, a par-3 short hole, Ami holed a birdie putt for a 2 to take the title. Hannah had a par 3.
Katie Bradbury (Exeter University) finished a close third on 305 with scores of 75, 81, 73 and 76.

Stirling won the men's team title by nearly 20 shots while St Andrews won the women's teams title by 17 strokes. This is the first time there has been a women's team competition on the championship programme.
Ailsa Summers (4th), Gabrielle Macdonald (5th) and Amy Chambers and Miranda Brain (both joint 6th) made up the St Andrews team.
